DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Advisor, Health Promotion
• Join us and help advance health promotion and well‑being across the Region of the Americas
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO), is seeking a highly qualified and results‑driven Advisor, Health Promotion to provide strategic, technical and programmatic leadership in advancing health promotion, addressing social and environmental determinants of health, and strengthening intersectoral action to improve health and well‑being in the Region of the Americas.
Under the general supervision of the Director, Social and Environmental Determinants for Health Equity (DHE) and the direct supervision of the Unit Chief, Health Promotion and Social Determinants (DHE/HP), the selected candidate will:
• Provide technical, strategic and programmatic advice and direct technical cooperation for the implementation of the PAHO Strategy and Plan of Action on Health Promotion in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Support Member States in the design, implementation and evaluation of healthy public policies and initiatives, strengthening social participation and intersectoral action.
• Promote community health, civil society engagement, and participatory approaches to improve well‑being and quality of life.
• Support the development and strengthening of information, surveillance and evidence‑based systems related to health promotion and social determinants of health.
• Coordinate the collection, analysis and dissemination of technical and scientific information, including technical reports, position papers and guidance documents.
• Represent the Organization in technical meetings, seminars, congresses and academic events related to health promotion.

What is required for this position?
Education
A university degree in a health, social or behavioral science and a master’s degree in public health, international health, health promotion, community health and/or development and health policy, or any field related to the functions of the post, from an accredited institution.
Experience
Nine years of combined national and international technical and managerial experience in developing and implementing health promotion strategies and policies at national, sub-national and local level.
Languages
Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language.
IT Skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology and software, as well as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Other IT skills and knowledge of software programs such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, OneDrive, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Word are considered essential.

• Excellent knowledge of health promotion theory and practice, including social determinants of health and equity.
• Ability to provide strategic and technical advice on health promotion policies, strategies and programs.
• Strong experience in intersectoral collaboration, community participation and civil society engagement.
• Project and program management skills, including planning, implementation and evaluation.
• Research and analytical skills using quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including preparation of technical reports and policy documents.
• Leadership, advocacy and partnership‑building skills in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
Duration of Contract
Post of limited duration. First year probationary period.
